This is a picture I took of my roommate Eric demonstrating his combination microphone/audio-visual control device.

If I told any of you that the Fishmarket party on the 19th would be unicorn/lion/sea turtle themed, I may have been lying. I didn't realize I was lying until today, when I discovered how many people wanted to loan me kiddy pools. This will totally be a pool party. You can still dress up though.

Looks like The Judies will probably be headlining, supported by a few excellent touring bands.

I'm sorry!

Too heart-healthy quotes from today:

Via Cedric, my next door neighbor, who does beats and stuff for rap and r&b, speaking to me a few days after the party:

"this is gonna be one of those things, one of those places people remember in 40 years, like... Haight-Ashbury, you know? Like I saw that girl playing the guitar by herself, and everyone was sitting on the floor around her. And I thought, damn, even I would sit on that dirty-ass floor to hear her!"

Via Mathew, a bike messenger I am pretty sure I've never met except through incestuous Atlanta bike kid association, speaking to my roommate Sergio:

"Oh, you live with Ben? Yeah, he's really fast."

Now I've got to go figure out how to print and frame/present photos for a show which is actually this Friday, not the Friday several weeks from now.

It was a costume party. I was a monkey's daddy.

For some reason everyone seems to have more fun at costume parties, so I am only going to throw those from now on.

This is a poster for our next concert. I am pretty excited. We've got a band flying in from NY, a puppet show, and at least a handful of firedancers. Also it is a costume party. I don't go to parties unless they are costume parties.

Also, this is the third time today that I've been introduced as "Ben from Fishmarket." Fishmarket is what we call my warehouse. It is funny how titles work. Sometimes I introduce myself as Ben, booking at Fishmarket. And other times I introduce myself as Ben, photo/interview guy at burnaway.org.

I feel like I am trading money for these titles. Like I can either earn a real living and eventually buy a plane ticket to India. Or I can earn a fakeass living, never own/buy anything of +$800 substance, but hold a variety of hipstercred titles and associations.

Anyway, I think this poster is hilarious. I am making fun of:

myself
hardcore show posters
sexuality
myself
myself
font
graphic design.

I forgot about this one. Ana, the girl with the camera, is in Zimbabwe right now.

I think I feel enervated.

I also think that is a word that I learned from some old SNES JRPG.

Things I am nervous and excited about:

first day at on the job tonight (I start in 68 minutes)
possibly adopting a kitten
new pants
first wedding photography job coming up
the four pet baths I'm taking pictures of this week
writing less?
going camping

I did a pretty good job at dancing last night. I hardly felt nervous, and I didn't run away when girls danced at me. Also, I wasn't very worried that people were criticizing the metronome like tick of my ass.

I am like two giggles away from pissing myself laughing. Gonna print up 100 of these suckers tomorrow and paste them up everywhere around town.

I am watching you.

Come to my party.

We bathed a cat yesterday.

It was a massacre.

I'm never sure what draws y'all's attention more: pictures of me, or just good pictures in general?

I did some experimenting with my new (hand-me-down) tripod over the weekend, and decided I didn't really like tripod work. You basically lose any life in the subject you're trying to photograph, can't reframe on the fly, and have an additional piece of heavy equipment to worry about losing. Still, I'd like to try setting up some Walter Evans type situations - tripod set up unobtrusively on a busy sidewalk, basically waiting for subjects to wander into the frame. Maybe near Underground Atlanta? I'd like to take more pictures of tourists, especially foreign ones.

Anyway. I'm in the studio with Pattern Is Movement right now doing video stuff - I'll try posting the (tripod-less) pictures tomorrow.

EDIT: Everyone in the studio is now shirtless. I am blinded by the white.

I am sitting on the sidewalk eating wireless internet, and it keeps smelling like shit. I look at my boots for the third time - they are immaculate - and then across the street into an abandoned lot. There is a horse in the rubble. It is looking at a rooster, which is crowing.

This guy just drove past and shook his head at me, in really slow motion. He seemed disappointed.

Now a homeless dude is letting himself into the abandoned lot that the horse is hanging in! There is a second horse and it is coming out to say "hey!"

--

So that is my situation report.

Today I am painting my bedroom walls, frosting our exterior windows, and cooking some ratatouille for our potluck tonight.

I like working on my room, and I will be disappointed when everything's finished - I have a feeling it could be several years before I build another wall.

I will not be online for a while, so here are some pictures of our cats:

More Kittens... )

They are named Seabass and Spacely. Seabass likes to cuddle and sneeze, Spacely likes to fight Seabass's butt.
